Copenhagen is one of Europe’s most photogenic cities with its mix of colourful harbourfronts, cobblestone streets and scenic viewpoints.
On our recent trip, we found ourselves constantly pulling out our camera because every corner offered another perfect shot.
In this guide, I’ll share the 10 best photo spots in Copenhagen to help you discover the city's most Instagrammable spots and make the most of your time there.
1. Nyhavn
If there’s one place in Copenhagen that feels like it was made for photography, it’s Nyhavn. No matter how many pictures you’ve seen beforehand, stepping into the harbour in person still leaves you speechless and wanting to capture 100 photos.

We loved this spot as every few metres revealed a new angle and a different pop of colour, so you could capture unique and personal shots.
Make sure to arrive early in the morning if you want the whole place to yourself - we visited at 10am and it wasn't too busy, but there were other people taking photos.

We also recommend visiting during blue hour and after sunset, as the lights reflecting on the water look beautiful.
2. Rosenborg Castle
Rosenborg Castle was one of our favourite places to photograph in Copenhagen and it’s easy to see why. The castle itself is beautiful and its setting in the King's Garden offers perfect framing, with with tree-lined paths and manicured lawns adding depth and pops of colour.

We loved wandering the gardens and finding new angles, from wide shots across the moat to closer compositions through the trees.
In autumn, the trees turn golden and in spring the flowers add even more colour, so it’s a location that looks stunning year-round. Make sure to visit inside the castle too - the inside is just as impressive!
3. The Round Tower (Rundetaarn)
The Round Tower is one of those places that’s just as fun to photograph as it is to explore. Instead of stairs, you walk up a long spiralling ramp which offers some really unique photo opportunities with it's curved walls and light streaming in through the windows.

At the top, you’re rewarded with a 360° view over the rooftops of Copenhagen, which looks beautiful in any season. We spent a while up here capturing everything from wide cityscapes to little details like the copper rooftops and church spires.

It’s a spot that works well for both architecture shots and lifestyle photos, and if you go earlier in the day you’ll avoid the busiest crowds inside and get the best lighting.

4. Nyboder
Nyboder is one of Copenhagen’s most charming neighbourhoods to photograph, with distinctive long rows of yellow-painted townhouses that look perfectly coordinated.

The 17th century neighbourhood was built to provide housing for sailors and soldiers of the Danish Navy and is now one of Copenhagen protected cultural heritage spots - and an epic photo location!
We didn't actually make it to this spot, but we did find similar painted townhouses opposite the Danish Architecture Center which were just as photogenic.
5. Tivoli Gardens
Tivoli Gardens is a must visit spot in Copenhagen, especially if you're looking for the most photogenic locations. The amusement park is full of colourful rides, lantern-lit pathways, lakes and green areas, providing plenty of photo spots.
As photogenic as it is during the day, Tivoli really comes alive at blue hour when the lights switch on and the whole park glows, especially around the lake.
If you visit during one of their seasonal themes (like Halloween or Christmas), it becomes even more photogenic with extra decorations and light displays at every turn.
6. Gammel Strand/Stormbroen Bridge
This area is a small but incredibly photogenic corner of Copenhagen, with colourful buildings lining the canal and natural leading lines that draw the eye.

One of the best spots is next to the bridge, where you'll get an epic view of the canal leading your eye to the tower in the distance. Along the water’s edge, you’ll also find picturesque coloured houses that make for equally beautiful shots, giving you plenty of options to frame the perfect photo.
7. Christiansborg Tower
Christiansborg Tower offers one of the best panoramic views in Copenhagen and best of all, its free! From the top you can see the rooftops, spires and canals stretching out in every direction, perfect for capturing details or wide-angle shots.

The tower is surprisingly quiet compared to other viewpoints (perhaps the fact you have to queue for it) so it’s easy to take your time framing shots without crowds getting in the way.
8. Landemærket Street
Landemærket Street is one of many photogenic streets that we wandered along, with a bunch of pastel-coloured houses next to each other.

Honestly, Copenhagen's streets are just full of photogenic coloured houses, so it's easy to just wander and find them as you go. There's plenty of other streets close to this one that are just as photogenic, so we recommend taking a walk around this area at golden hour!

9. Marmorbroen Bridge
The area around Marmorbroen Bridge is a beautiful spot and it's just behind Stormbroen Bridge - so they're perfect to explore at the same time.

You can capture the details of the bridge itself, with its clean lines and elegant stonework, or you can create beautiful frames of the colourful buildings and canal below.

It’s a quieter spot that feels a little off the beaten path, yet offers some of the most photogenic compositions in the city.
10. Kastellet & The Little Mermaid Area
Kastellet is a beautifully preserved star-shaped fortress that feels like a peaceful escape in the heart of Copenhagen and it offers plenty of opportunities for photography.
The area around The Little Mermaid statue is also worth visiting - while the statue itself is small, it’s iconic and the surrounding waters and skyline make for a lovely composition.
