If you’re visiting Rhodes and wondering whether Lindos is worth a day trip, the answer is absolutley yes. This photogenic village on the island’s southeast coast is one of the most beautiful and iconic destinations in Greece, with its maze of whitewashed alleyways, acient acropolis and turqoise bays.
In this guide, you’ll find everything you need to plan a day trip to Lindos from Rhodes Town (or anywhere else on the island), from the best things to do, a suggested itinerary and the best photo spots in Lindos.
How to Get to Lindos from Rhodes Town
Lindos is located about 50 km (1 hour) south of Rhodes Town, so it's one of the most popular day trips in Rhodes. There are several ways to get there, depending on how you want to travel.
We booked this bus transfer, as it was the most convenient and easiest option for us (we didn't hire a car).
By Car (Most Flexible Option)
If you're renting a car in Rhodes, driving to Lindos is straightforward and scenic. The route takes just over an hour along the east coast, with plenty of sea views along the way. Parking is available on the outskirts of Lindos, but it can fill up quickly during peak season, so arrive early to get a spot.
By Public Bus (Budget-Friendly Option)
The public buses run regularly between Rhodes Town and Lindos, especially in summer. The journey takes around 90 minutes and costs around €5 each way.
You can catch the bus from Mandraki Station, which is the main bus stop in Rhodes Town. You can either pay at the ticket office or on the bus, which does usually accept both card and cash (bring cash just in case).
While it’s affordable, buses can get crowded and might not be as flexible with timing.
By Guided Day Tour (Hassle-free)
If you're like us and you aren't renting a car and prefer a hassle-free experience, consider booking a Lindos bus transfer. This includes pick up near your hotel in an air-conditioned coach with free time in Lindos, and a photo stop on the way back to Rhodes.
It’s a great option if you want to relax and let someone else handle the logistics. At the time we booked, it was a very similar price to the public bus, so it made more sense to book this!
There are also plenty of pick up locations, so you can do this from wherever you're staying, like Ixia, Ialysos, Kallithea and Falariki.
By Boat (Full day with mutiple locations)
You can get a boat day trips to Lindos that include mutiple stops, so you can combine a trip to Lindos with swimming and snorkelling spots like Tsambika Beach and Anthony Quinn Bay.
These trips are ideal for combining sightseeing with a bit of time on the water, but they often have less time in Lindos itself, which is perfect if you’re happy with just a few hours in the village.

How long do you need for a day trip to Lindos?
We had around 3 hours in Lindos, which gave us just enough time to walk through the village, walk to the base of the Acropolis of Lindos and have some lunch, but it definitely felt rushed.
If you want time to explore at a more relaxed pace, walk up the Acropolis and enjoy a swim at St. Paul’s Bay, we’d recommend allowing at least 5 hours.
If you’re not renting a car or travelling by public bus, we’d suggest going for the longer 5-hour tour to make the most of your visit.
Best Things to Do on a Day Trip to Lindos
Lindos is a small village thats easily walkable, so whether your spending a few hours or a full day in Lindos, you'll be able to see the highlights. Here are some of the best things to do:
1. Visit the Acropolis of Lindos
One of the most iconic landmarks in Rhodes is the Acropolis of Lindos, which sits above the village and has incredible views over the coastline and St. Paul’s Bay.
The archeological site has acient ruins that date back to around the 10th century BC, so it's an incredible piece of Greece's history (Tickets cost €20).
The climb to the top is steep and uneven in parts, so wear good shoes and bring water, especially in the summer heat.
2. Wander the Whitewashed Streets
Lindos has the classic look you imagine when you think of Greece; a maze of whitewashed alleyways, lined with boutique shops, cafes and traditional Greek houses.
It’s the perfect place to wander without a plan, just follow the cobbled paths and see where you end up. This is what we did, we came across so many photogenic streets and hidden corners!
3. Swim at Lindos Beach
Just a short walk from the village, Lindos Beach is a stunning sandy beach with calm turquoise waters. It's one of the most scenic beaches in Rhodes and is perfect for a swim or sunbathe. You’ll find sunbeds available for rent and a few restaurants nearby.
Unfortunately, we didn't have time to see the beach, which is why we'd recommend longer than 3 hours!
4. Enjoy a Rooftop Lunch with a view
Lindos is famous for its rooftop tavernas, most of which have beautiful views over the village and the acropolis. It’s a great place to stop for a traditional Greek lunch or a refreshing drink, especially if you can time it with the midday heat.
We didn't eat at a good restaurant, but some options that look lovely are Dionysos Restaurant or Village Cafe Lindos.
Day Trip Itinerary Example: How to Spend Your Time in Lindos
If you only have one day to explore Lindos, here’s a simple timeline to help you make the most of your visit without feeling rushed:
- 10:00 AM – Arrive in Lindos as early as possible for fewer crowds and cooler weather. This tour arrives at 10 AM.
- 10:15 AM – Climb the Acropolis of Lindos before it gets hot and busy.
- 11:30 AM – Wander the narrow, whitewashed streets. Visit shops and grab a coffee.
- 1:00 PM – Eat lunch at a rooftop taverna, try traditional dishes & enjoy the view.
- 2:00 PM – Swim or Relax at Lindos Beach, it’s a perfect spot to relax.
- 3:00 – 4:00 PM – Depart Lindos, the 5-hour bus tour usually leaves at this time.
What to Pack for a Day Trip to Lindos?
Bring comfortable walking shoes or sandals for exploring the cobbled streets and climbing the Acropolis. Pack sunscreen, a hat and sunglasses to protect yourself from the sun. Don’t forget a refillable water bottle to stay hydrated. Swimwear and a towel are great if you plan to swim at Lindos Beach. A camera or phone is a must for capturing the stunning views.
Are There Toilets in Lindos?
Yes, there are public pay toilets in the village (cost €1), and there a toilets in most cafes and restaurants for customers.
Can You Stay in Lindos?
Yes, Lindos is a popular place to stay with plenty of accomodation types, from budget guesthouses to luxury hotels and boutique stays. Staying overnight would be a great option if you want more time to explore Lindos, plus you can see it at sunrise or sunset! Here are some great options:
- Lindos Aqua Terra (Luxury) – A stylish beachfront boutique hotel with modern rooms, a serene atmosphere and stunning sea views.
- F Charm Hotel (Mid-range) – A modern and peaceful escape just outside the main village.
- Lindos Del Mar Suites (Budget) – Affordable, modern suites with great amenities and a short walk to Lindos’ main attractions.
Is a Day Trip to Lindos Worth It?
I'd say a day trip to Lindos is 100% worth it, as it's completely different to Rhodes Old Town, with it's white greek buildings and sandy beach.
